Public works job ready for posting
HADLEY - The committee charged with helping the town find and hire a director of public works has submitted a job description to selectmen and the position will be advertised early this month.
The newly appointed committee began meeting lastmonth.
In June, the Board of Selectmen filed special legislation needed to create a Department of Public Works after Town Meeting approved the department in May. Gov. Deval L. Patrick was expected to sign the special legislation last month, but has not yet done so, Town Administrator David G. Nixon said.
The town is looking for a candidate with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering or related field with at least five years of experience in municipal public works administration. The director will manage an 18-person department and a $2 million budget.
The salary range is $59,4888 to $78,353.
Applicants had until the end of October to apply and the committee will initially screen the applicants and provide the names of three finalists. Nixon said that should happen in early January. The Board of Selectmen will ultimately hire the director.
