GATES - JANY

David and Pamela Gates, of West Springfield, announce the engagement of their daughter Sarah Elizabeth Gates, of West Springfield, to Timothy Steven Jany, of West Windsor, N.J. The future bridegroom is the son of Steven and Martha Jany, of West Windsor, N.J.

The bride-to-be is a graduate of West Springfield High School and received a bachelor's degree in marine safety and environmental protection from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. She has been employed as the environmental officer for Celebrity cruise lines onboard the Celebrity Mercury and also was a part of the safety and quality logistics team for Fraser Yachts.

The future bridegroom is a graduate of West Windsor-Plainsboro High School and received a bachelor's degree in marine engineering from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. He is a second engineer for Overseas Shipping Group onboard the Overseas Luxmar, currently sailing between Texas and the Mediterranean.

The wedding is planned for Sept. 25 in Agawam.
